about madpixel
madpixel makes media manipulation software for image and video — tools for artists chasing a specific look, not generic enhancement.
the philosophy
The studio is built on a love of experimentation. Every tool gives the artist as many knobs, dials, and inputs as it can — and the image they bring is one of those inputs. Effects aren't presets to apply; they're systems to play inside.
A given parameter combined with a given image yields results that couldn't have been predicted from either alone. The combinations aren't always intuitive. Tinkering — pushing values until something unexpected emerges — is the practice.
madpixel builds for artists who want to find a look, not pick one.
the lineage — madpixelsort
madpixelsort was the studio's first release: a compositional pixel-sorting tool, opinionated about how a single effect could be deepened with path modes, masks, and parameter control rather than presets.
Over its run it has powered countless artworks — album covers, editorial illustrations, music-video frames, indie-game assets, gallery pieces — and helped define a corner of contemporary digital image-making. The studio is grateful to the community that picked it up, pushed it past anything in the brief, and kept the conversation going.
available now — madphase
madphase carries that vocabulary forward into a broader studio. Where madpixelsort was one effect with depth, madphase is a stack — pixel sort alongside halftone, cross-hatching, riso, gradient maps, sonification, data mosh — composed in any order, every parameter keyframable, the whole composition exportable as video.
It's out now, for macOS and Windows. The product site is madphase.app.
